While you're local, traffic on the Sunshine Coast can be unpredictable, especially during school holidays or on weekends. Palmer Coolum is located just off the Sunshine Motorway, but congestion can build up on David Low Way. Allow at least 30 minutes of extra travel time to account for any delays and ensure you arrive with plenty of time to check in and warm up.
The resort's practice facilities are a key part of the experience. They have a full-length driving range and a large putting green. Take the time to use the practice area to get a feel for the ball and the speed of the greens. The greens at Palmer Coolum can be quick and have subtle breaks, so a few minutes of putting practice will pay off on the course.
Palmer Coolum has a traditional golf club dress code. While you are local, it's worth a reminder to avoid any potential issues. Ensure you have a collared shirt, tailored shorts, or pants. Denim, tracksuits, and singlets are not permitted on the course or in the clubhouse. Proper golf shoes are compulsory.
The course at Palmer Coolum is a championship layout known for its challenging design. It features tight fairways, strategic bunkering, and a number of water hazards. Playing smart is more important than playing long. Consider leaving the driver in the bag on some holes to ensure you stay in a good position for your approach shot. The course can be won with good course management.
Don't rush off after your round. The resort's clubhouse offers a relaxed atmosphere with great views of the course. It's the perfect spot to grab a drink, recount your best shots, and socialise with your fellow golfers. The post-round awards ceremony is a great chance to network, celebrate winners, and round out a memorable day.
